The first IMM Graduates to receive their rings at the Johannesburg Graduation Ceremony in April 2005
IMM Breaks New Ground
Always innovative, and with an obvious flair for marketing, the Institute of Marketing Management were the first institution in Africa to award Graduation Rings, purchased by their graduands, at their graduation ceremony in April. The IMM graduation rings carry the graduates' degree or diploma and their year of graduation on the shoulders and are crowned with the Institute's distinctive emblem. Having been worn with enormous pride in the United States since 1835, the tradition has only recently been launched in South Africa. IMM has pioneered the launch of the concept in Africa with CIDA City Campus and the University of Fort Hare.
To date over 50 graduates in the Johannesburg area have purchased rings. Interest in Zimbabwe and Botswana has been particularly keen, the ring is being worn by a Prince from Swaziland's Royal family and graduates from as far afield as Austria have purchased rings via the IMM website.
IMM has taken the initiative in expanding the range of commemorative jewellery to be made available to graduates. Solid gold lapel pins, a new delicate, band styled ring and pendants will be launched within the next few weeks.
